The recommended way for installing OpenOffice 3.0 in Intrepid is to add the PPA repository. And then upgrade. This will keep OO upgraded all the time. Just add the following repositories:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main Then run upgrade. It will upgrade OO 2.4 to OO 3.0.
