Hi everyone,

Great to see the new activity. It's been a while since we last saw some as
most of the active members got busy with life I think (me included). We're
always happy to see interested people doing things so I'll chime in with a
little of what has worked in the past in case it helps.

In the past we've used mailing lists, the forum and social media accounts
(a bunch of it is documented here - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AustralianTeam).
Given the Ubuntu ecosystem has changed a little over the last couple of
years (forum moved to discourse, IRC moved to a new server, etc) I had a
quick look at https://ubuntu.com/community/docs/locos to get a feel for
what is 'best' currently, Mailing lists are generally 'easiest' as they
have the lowest barrier to entry but for those who prefer something
different I'd recommend Discourse. If you'd like me to request a Ubuntu
Australia LoCo specific category let me know and I'll submit the request.

Some of the activities that used to get traction were:
* Installfests - we ran a couple in Brisbane at local libraries
* Participated in the Ubuntu Global Jams - these were usually online and
helped out a fair bit, we did some Bug work and some Translation Jams from
memory
* Gaming - a few of us got together on open source games for a bit (Urban
Terror seemed to be one I recall)
* Release parties / social gatherings - we held a few around the place,
tried to time them with other conferences such as Linix Conf AU (now
Everything Open)

These were not well documented but the surviving information appears to be
here - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AustralianTeam/Projects

As for time, I'm willing to help facilitate whatever can be of use and
share any insights from previous activity. In my experience it only takes
2-3 core people to get activity going and then you'll find others join in.
I suggest just starting something you're interested in and seeing who turns
up. Some things lead themselves better to in person events, others are
better online where you can cast the net wider.
