Hey everyone, Happy New Year!

It’s been a pretty quiet few years for the Ubuntu Australia team, and the LoCo
has been largely dormant.

With Windows 10 now at end of life and a lot of people feeling frustrated with
Windows 11, it feels like there’s a real opportunity for Linux in Australia
again.

If you didn’t catch the Ubuntu Summit back in October, the Canonical community
team are keen to see LoCos become active again. I reached out after the event
to express interest, and they’ve made it clear we’d have their support if we
decide to move forward.

I’d love to see Ubuntu Australia back on the map, but before pushing ahead I
really want to hear from you. If we were to reboot the group for 2026, what
would you actually want it to look like? And realistically, do you have the
time or interest to be involved these days?

A few open questions to get things started:
• Are mailing lists still the right approach, or should we be looking at
something more modern like Discord or Matrix?
• What kinds of meetups, events, or projects would be worth your time?
• Do you have time to help rebuild interest in the LoCo and assist with
maintaining it?

This is mostly a pulse check. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Even a quick hello would be great, just so I know I’m not shouting into an
empty room.

Cheers,

Tim Casey
