*I can read my mail anywhere anytime, a forum requires an active internet connection. Also my email client highlights what I haven't read yet.*
All modern forums have the ability to let you 'subscribe' to a thread, and you can set it to send you an email with the contents of every reply. *- Animated Avatars* Most modern forums have the ability to disable them or the admins could set it to not have avatars at all. * - Knowing which forums to read involves drill down until you can see the topic* I was thinking 3 or 4 sub forums tops, there's no reason to have a whole wide range of sub-forums when OCAU and Whirlpool have them. *I also prefer email/newsgroups because *I* get to decide what the emails look like on my machine (e.g. HTML/no HTML, font, size, etc.).* Most modern browsers have those specific features you mentioned, font, size etc are availble from the "view" menu on firefox, it also lets you zoom in and if you install the noscript addon it means no scripts run at all.
