So, it would help if we had a new icon, one which obviously communicates that these are official updates for Ubuntu. - -- mpt Hi Matthew, While the idea of an airdrop/parachute is nice, as someone else also pointed out, people are more used to the arrows and it is easier to use that "known metaphor" for updates to make it easier for people to recognise "updates". Since updates are something that need to be a part of Software centre, it is better to have a Software Updater icon that is a derivative of the original Software centre icon rather than making it look like a completely different/unrelated app. Here is my take on the Software Updater. I have only done the 48px and 128px icons. And this metaphor is scalable for all sizes, right down to 16px. The black color for the bag is something I used to make the bag distinguishably different from the SC icon while maintaining the contrast for the silver arrows and the orange for "Ubuntu".
