You know, that idea of reviewing the whole set of visuals to ensure 8-bit friendliness (and, if at all feasible, compliance to the Web-friendly 216-color palette) makes a lot of sense. It would really go a long way towards making the default theme that much more usable on a greater variety of hardware. Perhaps one approach could be to work with the Tango project to design icons that are guaranteed to work within the default Web-friendly palette, all while Ubuntu takes care of producing a unified gtk/gdm/gnome theme that fits the same palette? -- Martin-Éric Racine http://q-funk.iki.fi
