Positions (PhD students, postdocs, research engineers)
in Machine Learning and Computer Vision at OHSU

Applications are invited for a variety of positions in data science,
machine/deep learning, computer vision and computational modeling at the Oregon
Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon, USA. The research
will focus on development and implementation of machine learning and computer
vision algorithms and their applications to biomedical data, especially for
early cancer detection and precision oncology. The candidate will be a member
of the renowned Knight Cancer Institute and the newly founded Center for
Biomedical Data Science at OHSU. The candidate will also have the opportunity
to interact with several leading international academic institutions and major
industry partners with whom we have built collaborations. The PhD students will
have their degrees awarded through the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Many of our trainees are employed by tech companies such as Microsoft, Nvidia,
Intel, Apple and Amazon as well as big biotech companies such as Merck.
You Will:

  * Work and collaborate with a diverse team of machine/deep learning
experts, imaging scientists, cancer biologists, radiologists and medical
doctors to build a new generation of artificial intelligence in cancer
research, detection and treatment.
  * Create, implement or apply algorithms and software in machine/deep
learning for quantitative image analysis that will enable discoveries in
biomedicine in diseases such as cancer. The tasks may include image
registration, segmentation, characterization, quantification, classification,
prediction, multimodal integration, dynamic modeling, spatial analysis,
representation learning, etc., using a variety of imaging modalities from
microscopy to body imaging.
  * Leverage the unique opportunity within the fields of computer vision,
machine learning and cancer research provided by the unique data at OHSU for
conventional and unconventional modeling with clinical and biomedical
relevance, such as semi-supervised machine learning, multi-omics integration,
and generative AI methods.
  * Have the opportunity to leverage modern computing clusters with hundreds
of GPU’s and large cluster of DGX nodes.
The requirements for these positions include:

  * A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electronical
Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or
a related discipline. Candidates with degrees in other field but strong
quantitative skills and machine learning experiences are also encouraged to
apply.
  * Strong analytical and computing skills.
  * Familiarity with basic statistical analysis, machine/deep learning and
computer vision methods.
  * High level of proficiency in programming languages such as Python,
Matlab, C/C++, or Java.
  * Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., Keras, TensorFlow,
PyTorch) is desired.
  * Experience with working with real world data is desired.
  * Knowledge about cancer biology and microscopic imaging is desired but
optional.
  * Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Salary and benefits will be highly competitive, and commensurate to
qualification and experience. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact
songx [at] ohsu (dot) edu.
