The Research Unit of Artificial Intelligence Techniques at the Institute
of Logic and Computation, TU Wien, Austria, is offering a position as
university assistant (post-doc) for 6 years for 40 hours/week. Expected
start: July 2023.
You will work on neuroscience-inspired artificial intelligence (AI)
towards the development of novel AI systems by using insights from
cognitive neuroscience. This research aims to overcome limitations in
current AI approaches in order to improve the application of AI and
machine learning systems to real-world problems where AI has not reached
human-level interpretability and accuracy such as in healthcare. You
will develop next-generation AI models based on theories of message
passing in the brain, such as (but not limited to) predictive coding,
dopamine-inspired learning rules, equilibrium propagation, and target
propagation. You will develop novel AI algorithms and systems inspired
by and using insights from neuroscience for a variety of application
domains and problems in machine learning, such as computer vision,
natural language processing, and natural language explanations.
You will hold a doctorate (or be close to completion) in computer
science or related discipline, together with relevant experience, and
possess good (theoretical and programming) background in machine
learning, computational biology, and computational neuroscience
(desirably in deep learning and neural networks, deep-learning-based
representations, predictive coding, and target propagation), as well as
good software engineering skills (especially in system implementations
and experimental evaluations). Experience in applying machine learning
models in the healthcare domain would also be strongly appreciated.
