The Feng lab at the University of California, San Francisco is hiring a
postdoctoral researcher to develop tools that explain how distribution shifts
contribute to performance changes of ML algorithms across contexts and/or over
time. The project will draw on various techniques, including causal inference,
semi-parametric inference, and feature attribution methods. These tools will
also be integrated with sequential monitoring procedures to develop systems
that both detect and explain performance drift over time. As real-world case
studies, we will be analyzing clinical ML algorithms that are slated for
deployment across electronic health record (EHR) systems from three
institutions: UCSF, ZSFG, and Duke University. This is a highly collaborative
project, involving biostatisticians, machine learning researchers, and
clinicians. This is a 3-year position, with a start date of March 2023. See the
detailed job posting and instructions for applying at
https://www.jeanfeng.com/joining.

The position requires a PhD degree or equivalent in machine learning,
(bio)statistics, computer science, or another relevant field. We are looking
for someone who:

  * has experience doing methods development
  *   can perform independent research
  * can work and collaborate with a team
  * has experience developing in a Linux environment, using git-based
workflows, and writing in Python/R
