**Funded PhD Opportunity, University of Manchester, UK – Sept 2022 Start**
Dear all, we are currently advertising for a 3.5 year fully funded PhD project at the University of Manchester, as part of the university EPSRC DTP. The project will develop statistical methodology to support the development of “dynamic” clinical prediction models. These are models that are developed such that the coefficients are updated (e.g., in a Bayesian sense) as information about new patients becomes available through time. This contrasts to “standard” prediction models, where the coefficients are estimated once, and remain fixed with time, which leads to issues where predictive performance deteriorates temporally. While dynamic prediction models are a promising and exciting development to overcome this issue, there exist several methodological challenges, which this project will aim to address. More details, including how to apply, can be found here: https://www.findaphd.com/phds/project/epsrc-dtp-clinical-prediction-models-that-update-optimally-over-time/?p144103 This PhD projects build upon our existing research activity around risk prediction, and the successful student will sit within our group in the Centre for Health Informatics (https://www.herc.ac.uk/). The successful candidate will join a large and vibrant cohort of existing PhD students, with plenty of opportunities for further training and development. This project will be of interest to students who wish to apply their mathematical/ statistical skills to health research, in the field of risk prediction. If you are interested in applying, please Dr Glen Martin (glen.mar...@manchester.ac.uk<mailto:glen.mar...@manchester.ac.uk>) or Dr Matthew Sperrin (matthew.sper...@manchester.ac.uk<mailto:matthew.sper...@manchester.ac.uk>).
