MOBROB2022 - Summer School on Autonomous Mobile Robotics in the framework of
Industry 4.0

Lecce, Italy
Dates: June 13, 2022 – June 18, 2022
Venue: Conference Room of the “Rettorato” Building, Piazza Tancredi 7, Lecce
(Italy)

The “Summer School on Autonomous Mobile Robotics in the framework of Industry
4.0” aims to provide the participants an updated state of the art of the main
issues in the context of mobile robotics, with a particular emphasis on the
Industry 4.0 framework. This goal will be obtained with methodological
tutorials from internationally recognized academic researchers, technical
sessions with practical experiences and demos from industrial experts, and a
final test.

Organizers: Daniela De Palma, Gianpaolo Ghiani, Giovanni Indiveri, Emanuele
Manni, Gianfranco Parlangeli, Riccardo Tornese

Confirmed lecturers:
- Giovanni Indiveri (University of Genova), An introduction to Autonomous
Mobile Robotics
- Gianluca Antonelli (University of Cassino and Southern Lazio), Robotic
manipulation
- Enrico Simetti (University of Genova), Architectures and languages for mobile
robotics
- Giuseppe Oriolo (Sapienza University of Rome), Navigation, guidance and
control
- Federica Pascucci (Roma Tre University), Distributed Cooperative
Localization/Autonomous Navigation
- Lucia Pallottino (University of Pisa), Coordination of fleets of mobile robots
- Elettric80 Spa, Path planning and coordination of fleets of laser-guided
mobile vehicles
- Davide Mannone - Rocco Nicola Lombardi (Code Architects), Challenges in the
design of mobile robots for intralogistics
- Gianpaolo Ghiani (University of Salento), Optimization, planning, scheduling,
routing (part 1)
- Emanuele Manni (University of Salento), Optimization, planning, scheduling,
routing (part 2)
- Alessandro Deodati (Niteko Robotics), Design and integration of navigation
and mapping algorithms
- Marlin Ulmer (University of Magdeburg), Reinforcement learning
- Cosimo Distante (National Research Council of Italy), Artificial vision
- Riccardo Tornese (Tactile Robotics), ROS and ROS2: an introduction with
demonstrations on real mobile robots

The summer school will accept a maximum of 30 participants.
No prior experience or knowledge in robotics is required, but a strong
background in scientific disciplines is a plus.
Applications from Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers in
scientific-related disciplines will receive preference. Master students,
Bachelor students, and graduates in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, and
Engineering are welcome to apply, but may be given lower priority, if the
number of applications exceeds the threshold.

Currently, the summer school is expected to be held in presence.

The participation to the “Summer School on Autonomous Mobile Robotics in the
framework of Industry 4.0” is free of charge. However, for organizational
reasons, it is necessary that the accepted participants are registered by May
15, 2022.

The registration for the participants includes:
• Lunches and coffee breaks during the summer school (Monday to Saturday)
• Summer school material
Further information including the application form and instructions can be
found on the website:
http://conference.unisalento.it/ocs/index.php/mobrob2022/

ECTS credits for PhD students:
The School is a 5-day intensive course in the area of Autonomous Mobile
Robotics in the framework of Industry 4.0: there are 28 hours (planned) of
lecturing activities and 16 hours (planned) of project activities with the
possibility of a final exam (assessment test and final project) upon request of
the participants. A participation certificate will be issued to all attendees
specifying the duration of the course. Participants requesting a final exam
will be also given an exam outcome letter. Students that have passed the final
exam will be able to request ECTS credits at their own institution. The Summer
School Organizers estimate that the students successfully passing the final
exam should be awarded at least 3 ECTS.
