It is our great pleasure to announce that the 1st International Joint
Conference on Learning & Reasoning (IJCLR 2020) will take place from 9
to 11 Sept. 2020, at the campus of the National Center for Scientific
Research (NCSR) "Demokritos", in Athens, Greece.

Integrating learning and reasoning constitutes one of the key open
questions in AI. Integrated approaches to learning and reasoning
potentially address many of the shortcomings of contemporary AI
approaches, including the black-box nature and the brittleness of deep
learning, and the difficulty to adapt knowledge representation models in
the light of new data.
Four international conferences/workshops addressing various aspects of
integrating learning & reasoning join forces in IJCLR 2020:
* The 30th International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming
(ILP). ILP studies machine learning within a logic programming context.
* The 15th International Workshop on Neural-Symbolic Learning &
Reasoning (NeSy). NeSy studies the integration of neural-based learning
with logic-based reasoning.
* The 10th International Workshop on Statistical Relational Artificial
Inteligence (StarAI). StarAI has focussed on combining probabilistic
graphical models with first order logic and statistical learning.
* The 10th International Workshop on Approaches and Applications of
Inductive Programming (AAIP). AAIP studies the induction and synthesis
of programs from examples of their input / output behaviour.
The goal of IJCLR 2020 is the presentation of cutting-edge research on
topics of interest to the participating conferences/workshops, such as
integrating logic with induction and probability, neural with symbolic
representations, or synthesizing programs from examples, but also, to
promote collaboration and cross-fertilization between different
approaches and methodologies to integrating learning & reasoning, via
joint discussions, keynotes and poster sessions.
Paper submissions:ILP, NeSy, StarAI and AAIP solicit paper submissions
on their research topics of interest. Submission guidelines, proceedings
etc. will adhere to each conference/workshop's tradition, while accepted
papers will be presented at IJCLR 2020. Submission dates may slightly
vary per conference/workshop, within May 2020. More information may be
found at the web site of IJCLR 2020:
http://lr2020.iit.demokritos.gr/papers/
Journal track:In addition to conference/workshop paper submissions,
IJCLR 2020 features a journal track supported by the Machine Learning
Journal (MLJ). We solicit submissions on all aspects of Learning and
Reasoning, on all topics where machine learning is combined with machine
reasoning or knowledge representation. Submitted papers will be reviewed
following MLJ's standard reviewing procedures. Accepted papers will be
presented at IJCLR 2020 and published at the MLJ Special Issue on
Learning & Reasoning. The editorial team will be aiming for a
turn-around time of 10-12 weeks for most submissions. Articles should
preferably be no longer than 20 pages. The journal track has two cut-off
dates: Feb. 15 2020 and April 15 2020. More information about the
journal track, including submission guidelines, may be found at the web
site of IJCLR 2020: http://lr2020.iit.demokritos.gr/papers/
Important dates:
Conference/workshop paper submissions: May 2020.
Journal track cut-off dates: 15 Feb. 2020, 15 April 2020.
IJCLR 2020: 9-11 Sept. 2020.
Sister conference:KR 2020, the 17th International Conference on
Principles of Knowledge Representation & Reasoning
(https://kr2020.inf.unibz.it/), which will take place from 12 to 18
Sept. 2020 in Rhodes, Greece.
