*Student Program for the 1st Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society* *http://www.aies-conference.com/students-call-for-papers/ <http://www.aies-conference.com/students-call-for-papers/>*
AI is becoming more pervasive in our lives and hence the impacts on society are increasing. Topics including value alignment, data handling and bias, regulations, and workforce displacement have entered into everyday conversation. Only a multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder effort can find the best ways to address these concerns, including experts of various disciplines including ethics, philosophy, economics, sociology, psychology, law, history, and politics. In order to address these issues in a scientific context, AAAI <http://www.aaai.org/> and ACM <http://www.acm.org/> have joined forces to start a new conference, the AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society. As part of the conference we will accept about 20 students to come present their work, be part of the working groups, and meet mentors from the constellation of communities working on AI, ethics, and society. This program which will join students and professionals from across disciplinary boundaries will provide the students with a unique experience to both present and expand their research. Acceptance into the student program will include some travel funding to attend the conference on February 2-3 2018 in New Orleans, USA which is co-located with AAAI 2018. Students working on a variety of topics are encouraged to apply including: - Building ethical AI systems - Value alignment - Moral machine decision making - Trust and explanations in AI systems - Fairness and Transparency in AI systems - Ethical design and development of AI systems - AI for social good - Human-level AI - Controlling AI - Impact of AI on workforce - Societal impact of AI - AI and law Please see http://www.aies-conference.com/students-submission/ for complete details on putting together an application. - *Submission Deadline:* December 1, 2017 - *Notification:* December 20, 2017 - *Final Version:* March 1st, 2018 (Note the final version is after the conference dates to include feedback from the conference discussion). *Organization* - AI: Nicholas Mattei <http://www.nickmattei.net/>, IBM Research AI - AI and Law: Deven Desai <https://www.scheller.gatech.edu/directory/faculty/desai/index.html>, Georgia Tech -- Nicholas Mattei Research Staff Member | IBM Research AI IBM T.J.
