The Computer Science & Engineering department, which is a joint
department of Göteborgs Universitet and Chalmers, in Gothenburg,
Sweden with over 240 employees is undergoing an expansion in data
science and related areas to complement existing strengths in CS and
CE. A new Master’s program in applied data science is starting in
2017.

We are hiring an Associate Professor in Machine Learning at
Chalmers. The application deadline is December 15.

The CSE department and Chalmers and GU provide a very collegial,
collaborative environment and access to well-educated students at the
Bachelor and Masters level. Both in Bachelor and Masters programs a
research-oriented thesis is mandatory and many students are interested
in ML and data science projects. Frequently, theses are joint projects
with industry.

There is excellent support for entrepreneurial activities with a lot
of industry (e.g. Volvo, Astra Zeneca) and startups (e.g. Spotify’s
data science and ML activities) in the area. Note that in Sweden
faculty owns IP, which drastically changes the equation for
commercialization of research.

Gothenburg is Sweden’s second-largest city, cosmopolitan, and
culturally diverse with a rich history. It is located on Sweden's West
coast. Sweden offers an excellent standard of living in particular
with respect to universal health care, free education, public child
care and public infrastructure. Achieving a healthy work-life balance
and family friendly policies, such as internationally leading, very
generous, paid paternity and maternity leave, are a national point of
pride.

We would like to encourage applications from excellent assistant
professors and more senior colleagues. Please contact
