Faculty Position in Intelligent Systems at the University of Vermont ====================================================================
As part of its continued growth and investment in excellence, the University of Vermont College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (UVM CEMS) is hiring up to five tenure-track faculty in Complex Systems during the 2009-10 academic year, with a key hire in Intelligent Systems being made in the UVM CEMS Department of Computer Science at the Assistant Professor level. The Department of Computer Science at UVM offers Master's and Ph.D. programs, and three undergraduate programs developed with CEMS's School of Engineering, and Department of Mathematics and Statistics as well as with the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Business. Faculty in CS are involved in the forefront of research in complex systems including data mining, distributed systems, and evolutionary computation. CEMS faculty in computer science, engineering, and mathematics are all encouraged to teach next generation students with emphasis upon contextualized, real-world examples to develop student understanding of the role of technology in the 21st century society and innovation, with current CS teaching responsibilities consisting of courses per year with average enrollments of 25 students. Preference will be given to those candidates who best complement the existing research strengths of the Department of Computer Science and can contribute to the CEMS initiative in complex systems (www.uvm.edu/complexsystems). Candidates for the position should have an earned doctorate in an appropriate discipline, a proven record of scholarly activities and the ability to teach multiple courses in the undergraduate curriculum.
