Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. The position will involve conducting research under the direction of Prof. Raymond J. Mooney on machine learning and abductive reasoning using Markov Logic Networks, as part of a recently awarded MURI (Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative) grant entitled "A Unified Approach to Abductive Inference," whose other principal investigators include Professors Pedro Domingos (Univ. of Washington), Tom Dietterich (Oregon State Univ.), Jerry Hobbs (ISI/USC), Henry Kautz (Rochester Univ.), Carlos Guestrin (CMU), and Josh Tenenbaum (MIT).
The position is for one or two years, full time, starting Sept. 1, 2008 at a competive postdoc salary. Candidates should have research experience in machine learning, ideally statistical relational learning, and/or abductive and probabilistic reasoning. The CS department at UT Austin was recently ranked the 9th best graduate program in the U.S. and the 5th best in Artificial Intelligence by U.S. News.
