In my previous patch, I proposed a generic config switch (which added those flags in the generic Makefile) for that, but the only comment I got was from Mike Frysinger, stating that an extra config switch was unnecessary when I could simply set those variables in the board config.mk. Those two switches make for a significant reduction in code size (~61000 bytes, nearly one flash sector!), so dropping them is no real option.
