Thanks all. I was able to fix my script. For what it's worth if anyone wants to see how I was automating git send-email, I used:
--cc-cmd='./scripts/get_maintainer.pl --nogit-fallback --norolestats xxx.patch' Adding the --nogit-fallback flag removed a lot of the people on the list.
