If we cannot get this sorted out and you'd be willing to ship me one of those boards, I'd be super-glad to have one. In the meantime, can you try the ELDK 5.8 toolchain ? You can fetch it from [1], go into 5.8 / targets / armv5te and grab eldk-glibc-i686-arm-toolchain.sh . Run the script and it will install the toolchain into /opt/eldk/ . Then just source /opt/eldk-5.8/arm*/environment* script and build u-boot as usual.
