concerning ext:news: This is just not yet implemented, so what you can do: create a simple ViewHelper which gets you all news by it's category and returns the news items. this vh can then be used in Category/List.html You can also create an issue at http://forge.typo3.org/projects/extension-news/issues for that and push the change yourself or just add the forge issue.
