I think so as well. Depending on user skills, offering this feature may 
confuse them more than it helps. And I spend more and more time sending
support emails explaining why it doesn't work, with modern mail servers.
However if somebody is aware of a public mail server still supporting
POP3 authentication only I'll keep it for the next decade :)
