So I watched this already - I think it is a little more complex and
substantive than Kevin’s dismissal here implies (not a lot more, but a
little).

I watched all 17 minutes of it because the description I first saw read
like it was a real-life version of the thing KG did on the Seinfeld show
years ago (which I thought was hilarious). And it kind of is - though it is
not at all funny, and in some places it is a little sad and pathetic. I
only vaguely know who Harvey Levin is, and have no idea who Andy Cohen is
(I guess the head of Bravo TV?); if I knew them better I might have a
little more compassion for KG.

We have read several stories of how KG continues to feel unfairly
persecuted because of the Trump photo thing. I think the photo was in bad
taste and inappropriate, but I also think it was hugely over-hyped. CNN had
to fire her, but she is not really an enemy of the state. But she says she
and her family get death threats (probably true, but hard to estimate how
serious that is. I got death threats too for saying unpopular things in my
own little drama a couple of years ago, but I did not take them seriously).

I think what is substantive here is her report (which is consistent with
other things we already know) that powerful cultural influencers are not
just sympathetic to Trump, but in fairly frequent direct communication with
him. Now, to be fair, a lot of influencers were fans of Obama, and visited
him at the WH, hob knobbed at parties and fund raisers, and campaigned for
him. But it would be one thing to know that Jerry Jones donated one million
dollars to Trump PACS and has attended a few state dinners, and quite
another to learn that Jones talked to Trump at length on the phone and
makes requests (or gives directives) for Jones to run his buissiness in
ways to support Trump’s agenda. If it came out that Obama called a good
friend and supporter of his at the Food Network and had him fire Paula
Dean, I think more than a few people would have freaked out.

Unfortunately for much of the tape KG, who is calm and collected and not at
all in character in the video, comes across as someone who is trying to get
a disability check because her boss had been too mean to her. She does not
just name a few famous and powerful men; most of the people she calls out
by name are women in various roles (including her agents) who she feels did
not defend her or protect her from men who were saying bad things about her.

At the end of the tape she actually admits the reason she made the tape -
she is on a world tour. As Kevin notes she frames it as if she is saying
“If I get run over by a truck in Bancock, Donald Trump and Andy Cohen
murdered me” - but really it seems like she is just trying to hype her
shows and build up the gate. I saw a couple of seasons of her reality show
- enough to know that this is the kind of strategy she uses to market
herself.

Oh, she also calls out Ari Emmanuel, brother of Obama’s first chief of
staff.
