The singer best known for "Eh Compari" was never completely able to shake
his most infamous moment in 1953 where, after two years as a cast member on
the radio and television programs hosted by the then-powerful Arthur
Godfrey, he was fired by Godfrey during a broadcast of Godfrey's CBS
morning show "Arthur Godfrey Time," allegedly for "lacking humility" (but
more likely for hiring a manager and stepping out on the weekly dance
lessons the "LIttle Godfreys" had to take)--he kept his career going in
nightclubs and on TV and radio (including a long stint as a DJ on New
York's WNEW when the station returned to its roots in the early 80s and
began the adult standards format). He, like other crooners, probably
would've been hurt by rock and roll no matter what, but at least he had the
satisfaction of seeing Godfrey's career steadily go downward after this
incident:

And a clip from an episode of "Biography" (narrated by Jack Perkins)
including Godfrey's actual firing of Mr. LaRosa (during the radio-only
portion of "Arthur Godfrey Time"):
