I am now officially skeptical of the claim that the parties are controlling
the video of the convention we see on our televisions. Jon Stewart showed
video of the specific part of the First Lady's speech that I initially
referenced in this thread ("Mom-in-Chief") last night, and the source was
clearly CNN. While PBS cut away early, before she delivered the line, to
linger on tearful moms in the crowd, the CNN feed stayed with Obama until
she completed the line before cutting to reaction shots during the applause.
I would be surprised if there really were nine different sets of cameras
covering every angle of the platform and audience that we see for each of
the outfits televising the convention, so there probably is some kind of
pool arrangement in providing live feeds; but until I see clear evidence to
the contrary I am going to conclude that each organization is making their
own editorial decision about what images to show on their air, when.
