The news channels on Friday demonstrated that "breaking news" coverage hasn't changed one bit since the "Buckwheat Has Been Shot" days on Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s. They hit every cliche, including NBC Nightly News already having a name, graphics, and sad theme music ready for the 6:30 broadcast.

Speaking of NBC, was there some sort of technical reason BriWi & Co needed stand-up mikes?

And while I appreciate the ballsy move of ABC not sending Diane Sawyer out there, minus points for sending out David Muir (the weekend anchor) a day early.
