I'd hope that other MUAs would jump on "Fwd:" and in doubt consider the trailing number first part of the message (ie. when condensing "Fwd:" prefixes to one, leave the header intact)
Even if we manage to save the count (i.e. the 3 in Fwd:3 Foo Bar) from the "Fwd:" prefix chopping done by other MUAs, we may end up conveying *wrong* information as some other MUA (say Gmail) would keep the subject line as "Fwd:3 Foo Bar" when a user forwards this email(in the above example). The reciever of this forwarded mail then reads this *incorrect* information, which is worse than absence of this information (IMHO).
The issue is that we are suggesting a format that (most) others won't follow, and information they won't take responsibility of maintaining, _because this isn't by standard_. And I am not sure if I, as the person working on this feature, have the influence of imposing a format.
If we keep making a new format for Fwd prefix count out of the scope of this patch, then which out of the two original alternatives can we move forward with, atleast for now? 1. Just append a "Fwd: " to the subject line when a forwarded message is to be sent by trojitá. Or, 2. Mangle the subject line to replace multiple occurences of the "Fw(d): " prefix with a single "Fwd: ", just like it is done for replying, and like it is done by some email service providers I checked (Gmail, Yahoo).
