Public bug reported: packagekit wants to update but cant, all measures to fix it result in the same error: you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem, but that does prompt the error that the package is not installed while it is.
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of packagekit-tools: packagekit-tools depends on packagekit (= 1.2.5-2ubuntu3); however: Package packagekit is not installed. Trying to install anything about this package always results in error: "E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to cor rect the problem." and that solution does not work but again prompt the error above claiming dependency problems. I have tried: sudo apt install --reinstall packagekit package-tools sudo apt -f install The update either says:
Cannot obtain lock:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
or more rarely
The PackageKit daemon has crashed:

The PackageKit daemon has crashed
This bug is probably not a security vulnerability in itself but since no security updates can be made since this problem started it is kinda one. Since I am not sure if you consider that a security vulnerability I will leave the option unmarked.
