Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The album art is done via the thumbnailer service, so I had added them
to the bug report and set the music-app as invalid.

Others note this bug is a feature request, original discussion was bug
1607531.

** Also affects: thumbnailer (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
       Status: New

** Changed in: music-app
       Status: New => Invalid

Title:
  Recognize album artwork with "Album title.supported_extension"
  filename

Status in Ubuntu Music App:
  Invalid
Status in thumbnailer package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  At this time, Music currently supports the following filenames for local
album artwork (i.e. album artwork which is stored locally in the same folder as
the music for which it should be associated):
  * cover
  * album
  * albumart
  * .folder
  * folder

  These filenames must have one of the following extensions:
  * jpeg
  * jpg
  * png

  However most applications and programs also support (provided it matches the
folder name and metadata album title exactly):
  Album Title.supported_extension

  I propose that "Album Title.supported_extension" be added to the list
  of recognized filenames for album artwork, to bring Music into line
  with most other music players...
