Well there is no shortage of activity during Contests (on 160m, as well as all the other bands) But why don't these stations come on any other time? I really don't believe people are any busier these days than 20/40 years ago ! Apart from the fact that a lot of people just use FT8, rather than having "proper" QSOs, the problem is that people don't bother coming on because there is nobody on to work ! Rigs with Band Displays make this problem worse . . . they can SEE that there is no activity, so they don't even bother tuning around. And sadly they don't bother putting out a CQ call to try and stir up activity. It's a classic case of Catch22 !
