No Logger causes startup to fail

This looks like a VM crash, then. The rule is that if you can't point out to a
Tomcat bug which would cause the crash (since it is working perfectly well for
me on Windows, I don't see any bug), then the bug is invalid.

About the /dev/null thing: no logging occurs when running servlets, and I happen
to think that startup logging is important, so I don't see how this is useful.
