I have located the problem. I thought these were forged return addresses
but they actually were coming from an errant server. We put a new system
up the other day behind our firewall that should not have been able to do
anything. Sendmail was installed by mistake and I'm afraid it was used to
relay. Sendmail has been removed and the problem corrected. Thanks to all
that responded, with information, your time and efforts are
appreciated. And thanks to the great informational RTFM responses
that give us all such a great name.
Anyway thanks for taking your
time to respond and hep correct the problem.
