WOW, you guys are great!
Deleting the /home/vpopmail/domains/domain/.qmail-<user name> did the trick!
Again thanks,

Any ideas on how to fix this problem so that I can let people know that
this person no longer has an email account (via the mail robot)?
It will show up as in use if there's an entry in the vpasswd file (in the
domain's directory) for the user, or a .qmail-username file in the domain's
directory. You can delete the vpasswd.cdb file to have it rebuilt, if you
think it doesn't reflect changes made to the vpasswd file.
If you're using QmailAdmin 1.2.7 or later, you can enter the address in the
"quick links" section of the main menu and hit delete to have QmailAdmin
find the address (either as a mailbox, forward, mail robot or mailing list)
and delete it (with confirmation of course).
