Ah, I think I see. You're confusing MTAs and MUAs.
MTA = Mail Transfer Agent (Sendmail, Qmail, etc.)
MUA = Mail User Agent (Pine, elm, mutt, Eudora, Outlook, etc.)
Typos (and thinkos) happen to the best of us. But I wanted to make sure
that got cleared up.
