Linux, from it's earliest inclusion of security tools, has included the
"sulogin" command. That command includes the words "single user
login" in the headers and should be locatable by use of the "apropos"
command. "init" mentions single user login, and "lilo" provides enough
information that you could have found out about passwords with a
very small number of trips to the man pages.
