I have been continuing to do some (rudimentary) driver tests for performance

If one wants to use PCI-E device passthrough they have to use Qemu
machine type Q35
pc-q35-4.0 Standard PC (Q35 + ICH9, 2009)

while most Qemu installations would use the following machine type
pc-i440fx-4.0 Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996)

I noticed during testing using iperf3 (with defaults, that there were
watchdog events for em0
on the Q35 machine and that the performance was less than half that of
on the i440f fx machine

watchdog errors were more likely seen on the OpenBSD box
that was receiving packets in the bandwidth test
watchdog errors that appeared on the console were varied
em0: watchdog: head 430 tail 423 TDH 430 TDT 430
em0: watchdog: head 334 tail 299 TDH 334 TDT 334

I think this issue might affect other network drivers that are
attached via PCI-e to a Q35 Qemu machine
