Everything lives on the server, I ssh and run (al)pine locally to access my mail spool locally, no POP3 or IMAP in use at all. Current mail storage is mbox. Yeah, really, really old fashioned, the original server was a 386 with 16M or RAM running Debian sometime in the mid to late 1990s.
