Luke, have you considered the possibility that your network switch is
simply losing packets, by design or oversubscription?

Take for example, the Cisco X6148 Catalyst 6500 line card, which will
quietly drop packets.

I'm curious -- if your network equipment is dropping packets, where will
you monitor your flow to detect this?  And then what?
