i am OCDish enough to fuss over cabling so i normally try to do my own.
the one thing i did in this arena that people found remarkable
(in the sense of making remarks, not necessarily earthshaking) was
setting up a third vertical bar in the back of the rack. this really helped
routing cables. (nearly all racks only facilitate routing stuff up either side.)

i think i ended up doing power up teh left side, network up the right side,
and KVM dongles up the center. this neatened things up to allow adequate
airflow, although we used those rear doors with integral exhaust fans
anyway.

let me suggest one other thing. people often use different colour cables
to denote different functions. i like this idea but found it impractical
(you never have the right combo of length and colour, and fiber
rarely comes in different colours anyway). given good cabling practice
involves lots of cable ties, i recommend using the colour of the cable tie
as the functional designator. this is nearly always good enough, and there
are enough cable ties used to make it relatively easy to track.
