You basically download the OFED drivers from voltaire/Mellanox website, install them on the machines, and you have a working fabric. You can also do IP over IB if you want, which may make the most sense in your circumstances. There isn't a lot of configuration that you need to do. You can give the IB switch an IP address and collect stats from it if you are interested. You don't need to get fancy. These things work pretty well out of the box.
as far as driver support you may have a hard time.
