One good all-around book I'd highly recommend is Ernie Malaga (et al.)'s 'AS/400 Primer' book. I had to dig it out of storage (bought it for my own refresher) to discover the title and author, so it took a while.
It's a superb introduction to the AS/400 platform and also covers some basics of CL programming, system administration, system operations: http://www.amazon.com/400-Primer-Fundamental-Programmers-Administrators/dp/1883884594/ Keep in mind that as with most any other AS/400 books, it's a little dated. This one was published January 1, 2000, so it doesn't include information about features or changes past around OS/400 V3-ish. The current OS release is V7R1M0 (version 7, release 1, maintenance level 0. I.e. v7.1 "Service Pack 0"). The OS was formerly known as OS/400 and i5/OS, but is now officially known as 'IBM i'. But that's all right, really. The fundamentals are still the same even for later releases. IBM's own documentation can help cover any gaps in knowledge such as LPARs, HMC, etc. So, this is _the_ one book I'd highly recommend for a quick study of OS/400 if new to the platform but otherwise experienced with system administration. Good luck and have fun. That's a pretty nifty platform. -Dan _______________________________________________ Tech mailing list Tech@lists.lopsa.org https://lists.lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tech This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
