I've been happy with Postfix and Dovecot. I manage this configuration
for my employer (also a small non-profit) and I have a similar setup for
my personal email. For AV I use ClamAV via Clamsmtpd, but I'll probably
move to Amavis-new at the next upgrade opportunity. I'm using
SpamAssassin for anti-spam (along with a fair amount of customization at
the Postfix leve;, greylisting, rbls, etc).

Call me crazy, but I don't think it's silly at all to implement this
yourself. I don't have any plans to outsource anything, at home or at work.

Cheers,
