Actually these prices have come down a lot. Our first 10G adapters ran around 4K individually 4 years ago. I'm afraid you're probably going to have to do what we did 4 years ago and see if the cost/benefit of the speed improvement is worthwhile or wait until the price drops to what you can afford.
