Interesting.
Nowadays it seems like there will be no phones except the touch screen ones.
Hughe companies such as nokia, apple and samsung might know if touch screens
will be the techonolgie that will kill buttoms forever or buttoms will come
back one day in the future.
If buttoms will be dead in the next technologies I guess nuance will need to
develop talks for touch screen sooner or later.
If we will all be forced to use touch screens in the future, another
possibility for those who are not braillists is to have the letters written
or drawn on the touch screen with our fingertips, using visual forms.
The ideal would be to have both options: braille writing and visual writing.
But if google and microsoft are now offering new tablets with keyboards,
maybe cell phones can have buttoms again.
Complex matter.
Of course I'm suggesting it all just for future developments. Like the
majority of talks users I still use a buttom technology.

No this will not work as far as keeping things so that they work with
older phones. YES the newer phones can handle multy touch but the older
phones like the N97 and the like can not. So I don't see any screen reader
doing this for the reason I gave. It would then make the software so that
it may ahve issues with older phones. I'm sorry to say! I think there are
many more people using older phones then newer ones at this point in time.

Hardware eventually fails, software eventually works.
No amount of bandwidth can fix poor design.

Subject: [Talks] An idea for talks development
Hi listers,
I've had an idea that maybe can help our problems with touch screen
equipments.
Maybe it's not a new idea but if it is, lets think about.
The touch screen could be divided, for example, in 8 rectangles, 4 in the
left and other 4 in the right. If we touch the square 1 the application
understands letter A.
If we touch square 1 and 2 simultaneously, it means we have pressed
letter B.
Now the question for talks developers is:
Can a touch screen receive several touches simultaneously?
For instance, if I want to write the letter l I need to touch the squares
1, 2 and 3.
If touch screens can get multiple touches at the same time, it may become
a nice access for us.
If so, the screen can be divided in different ways like 5 cells on the
left side and 5 cells on the right.
The 6 upper cells can be used to braille pattern writting and the other
four cells can be used for other signals such as space bar, backspace,
enter and so on.
But if touch screen systems still don't accept multiple touches, maybe
the next generations of touch screens will work out this way.
