Most email clients have a configuration setting for POP that determines
whether messages are deleted from or left on the server after you
download them. Before I switched to IMAP, I configured my email client
on my desktop to delete my messages from the server after downloading
them. I configured all of my other email clients to leave the messages
on the server after they were downloaded. In this way, my desktop became
my email repository. Some email clients will also let you delete the
message from the server if you delete it from the client, so you won't
have to process the same message twice.

Other than that minor point, I agree with everything else said about
IMAP and POP.
