Does the case that you have use a magnetic clip to hold it closed? If so,
this is your issue. Magnics cause issues and activate functions on the
phone. This will very from model to model and case to case but in all cases
issues happen when cases have magnetic closers.

Well yes indeed you are right, but presumably if I put something else
there then that will be activated but I cannot work out how it is tapping
the hot key, it does not happen on the other phone with exactly same
cover. Will experiment though. Thanksl.

Wow, this sounded strange to me, but just a thought, do you have the
clock set as one of the key on the E71? because i am thinking
whether the pouch bumb the key and activated the clock. but if this is
not the case, i also have no idea what causes the clock app
launch.

Allan it is resolved now, however, I am interested to comment on this
question of a pouch that will cover the front of the screen. I refer now
to
an E71 which is not touch screen. I have a case for this phone, as I do
for
E72. The very strange thing is that when I close the cover on the E71,
it
activates the clock and Talks keeps speaking the time every second. I
have
to lock the keypad to overcome this problem. It does not happen with the
E72 which has a similar cover. Any ideas why this is happening?

Hi Eleanor,
Do you know if there is a way of altering the screen sensativity?
There's no such setting for capacitive touchscreen phone. But however,
if
my memory sirve me right, there's such setting available
for resistive touchscreen phones, to set it be more sencitive.
One suggestion from me that maybe can solve your problem. There is some
pouch that will have a cover to close the front of your
phone so that it will not accidentally activate anything on the
touchscreen part.
