hi, before i try to answer to all your questions, i may need to say this, while no one can stop anyone from buying any phone, but please do understand that the current up-to-date release of talks does not fully support for phones like E6 and X7 or older phones like N8, C6-01, C7 and E7 if it is updated to Symbian Anna. the following area has found broken in current release of talks 521.3:
* talks does not read while editing the home screen widgets. * talks lost focus when after in/out from a submenu. * Talks reading time on the middle button everywhere on the phone. * talks does not properly read the notification area which holds the miss call event and new message. * talks does not properly detect the date and time area on the home screen. * talks does not fully work in the new web browser. * talks broken in the mail application. * virtual keyboard broken in full touch screen phones. those are what i can remember for now, but as i mention above, these are the current problem for talks 521.3 and i am sure Nuance is working hard to fix them. so Eleanor, below are my answers to your questions. > 1. There appear to be 2 different screens, an active and an inactive one. Is > it possible to have just one screen? How is this > achieved? I like either as the moode takes me, using the active to check if > i have e-mail or what is current in the News. > However, I like having the photograph of my guide dog on the inactive4 screen. you can do it buy edit the home screen widgets or remove all widgets on the other 4 screens and you can add the photo become wallpaper. > 2. Receiving a text message. If I am in the area of my phone in the house, I > can hear a text alert. However, when I go to the > phone and activate it, using the slide switch on the right, Talks does not > inform me that there is a new message. I have a little > vision and found presumably an icon on the bottom third of the left of the > screen. When I placed my finger over this, Talks said > 1. It was the one message. I tapped it and the message opened. yes, that is the way to use E6, there's no more "key1 show" or "key2 exit" for new messages or miss calls. it is shown on the notification area on the left. > 3. Conversations, does anyone bother with this in Messaging? I am not sure > of its real function except there is an advatage if > sending multiple messages in conversation to and fro to someone and where one > word responses come back like Yes or What exactly do > you mean? then it is possible to refer to the thread. It seems like taking > up a lot of space on the phone but perhaps not. it will be banafit to a sighted but not talks user. it will not taking any much space on the drive c, just another way to read messages. > 4. How much actual memory does the E6 have without memory card? Mine gives > me the impression with Talks that there are just over > 6 GB of memory!!! the built-in memory is 8Gb and if you dont store anything in it, you will have about 7.3GB free space. after i done a full reset on my E6, i am now having 415MB on drive c and 7.3GB on drive e. > 5. While I can now read my e-mails, I am a little irritated, maybe I am > touching something but when I go to press Vol Down twice > (having pressed the Talks key) to read the message, a screen is popping up > giving me the option to Reply etc. Anyone else > experienced this? > 6. On my E7 (just gone back) I could arrow down through my e-mail Inbox just > to hear who the messages are from, but on the E6 > while I can arrow down, Talks does not speak. I have to open the message > before I get anything meaningful at the e-mailbox. I do > get things like New Mail etc but no relevant information in relation to the > e-mails themselves. mail in symbian Anna isn't supported yet for talks 521.3. > 7. Writing a text and sending it. This is good in that all the options are > on the touch screen down the right side and on the > bottom of the screen. Once I am ready to send, if I choose to press the soft > key one on screen instead of the relevant icon to > the right of the screen, I get the usual options like Send, add recepient > etc. Now again with a little vision I have observed > that I must ensure that the arrow down key has selected the option I want, > say it is Add Recepient and is the 3rd one down, that > is fine, but the first option is Send. Talks says Send but I need to ensure > that I have the down arrow on it, presumably > highlighting/selecting that option because unless I do, I do not get the soft > key one on screen. The best way I can describe this > is like on a computer the way a screen when inactive is greyed out but when > it is active, as in the case of multiple word > documents open on screen, the active or selected one is then the one that one > can work on. this is usual for ^3 devices and later. the first item is not selected when entering a list of items, you must arrow down once to have it selected. -- Allan (WKF) _______________________________________________ Talks mailing list Talks@talksusers.com http://lists.talksusers.com/mailman/listinfo/talks Hosting of this list provided courtesy of: eHosting Limited: http://www.ehosting.com/ and Talknav Inc. http://www.talknav.net/
