It's been a long time since I've used a phone with a numeric keypad (and
I'm not sure that's a good thing or not), but I think just a long press
of the number key will also give you the number. Try holding down the #1
key for two or three seconds and see if you don't get the #1 character.
Obviously, you can also use the (#) pound or hash or number key to
toggle into number editing mode and then type in the #1 or a series of
digits. If you haven't already, definitely check out the Talks manual.
