Hi list.
does anyone have any thoughts how I can deal with the following problem?
apart from asking some eyes that is.
basically I installed mobile speak on my e7 just to try it out and see
if it was any good.
however, now I would like to switch back to talks, but this doesn't seem
easy on a touch screen phone.
because of course you can't just assign a dedicated physical key to
launch talks, you need to get there through the menus, or the touch
screen, and of course for either of those you need speech.
of course when you then select the talks option, talks starts speaking
at you, but because there isn't a physical set of soft keys, both talks
and mobile speak are trying to take over the screen, and it seems
impossible to get rid of mobile speak in order to then be able to select
the option to enable talks properly.
my over all feeling is that both mobile speak and talks have advantages
and disadvantages.
on the one hand I was unable to get talks to read me some icons, as
there are some that don't seem to have been labeled.
on the other hand, when in stylus mode with mobile speak, none of the
home screen is read, and when in other speech modes, you don't get icons
such as the middle button read out to you, or the icons that page up and
down.
I think mobile speak does make texting much easier, as I found with
mobile speak I wasn't triggering off lots of menu functions accidentally
by touching the screen, which I was with talks, and with mobile speak as
well it seems much easier to find the soft keys on the screen, the other
nice thing with it is you don't have to specially enable the virtual
keyboard with soft key 2, its enabled on the home screen by default.
I haven't experimented with it on a call yet where you have to put in
further numbers, but my feeling is if that goes well it might be time to
ditch talks.
I appreciate the fact talks want to minimise changes to the UI, but I am
beginning to feel with a touch screen mobile speak are going down the
right road of customisation though trying to allow normal access as
well. Its a shame it doesn't read things in stylus mode though.
anyway, if anyone has any thoughts how I can reenable talks without
eyes, I would appreciate hearing them.
Many thanks,
Alex.
