Thanks John for taking the trouble to contact me. Indeed I understood all
you said there except that you had a demo liscence which is what I tried on
mine and which did not work for me. It is irritating and annoying that they
will not take your phone back OK but like you say that is it and they feel
you have used it. There is a good phone for E-bay then!!! *smile*. I take
your point though about us having to purchase the more expensive phones and
then Talks too but it is the same with the PC having to have the screen
readers. To be fair at the same time what would we do without them? I am a
mature lady *smile* and went to school in Ireland in 1960s and early 70s.
No computers then, Perkins Brailler and Typewriter. Indeed then I came to
London and it was the late 1980s before I stqarted to use a PC and screen
reader. How different education jopportunities are today with the advanced
IT though. I have just started using a phone with Talks about 2 and a half
years and have to admit I have never looked back. Before that I just could
not tolerate the speech of Talks. To my ears it sounded dreadful and I
hated to think of people listening to it. How foolish I was. Anyway sorry
for all of that John.
Eleanor

Hi Eleanor and thanks for your note.
I must have confused the list. I was only using a demo licence on the first
C5. I need to transfer the licence from my old N79 to the new C5, once I am
happy all is well.
My point was that in order to do what all others can do, I have had to buy 2
phones, one of which I may be able to sell at a much reduced price, and then
pay for the transfer of the Talks licence.
My initial UK supplier were adamant that they would not take the phone back
as it had been used; which is correct. You win some, you lose some!

Surely if you can provide some form of documentary evidence that you have
been unable to use Talks on that origional C5 providing IMEI details and
then Talks should be able to be transferred over without the additional
charge. If for example, I had my phone stolen, then by providing a Crime
Number and the phone's IMEI, I believe I could get Talks transferred over
without the additional payment of £50. Now in your case it is difficult to
prove on paper about the phone but worth thinking about. Guess the supplier
is not obliged to give you a refund if the phone is working fine from their
perspective. I cannot understand why the C5 and Talks would not work for me
either then I sent to Vodafone and let them put on Talks and all is well. I
would like to upgrade to Talks Premium now but I am afraid of taking the
risk in case it then goes and crashes again.s

Well,
My uk internet supplier would not take my phone back or replace it as I had
used it. How I was going to find out it was not compatible with Talks
without trying it I don't know.
I have now bought another C5 from a different supplier and got a UK phone.
All now works as it should, as far as I have noticed so far.
That makes it quite an expensive phone.
Now I need to spend another £50 to transfer my Talks licence.
This is good fun isn't it.
Spending so much money just to be able to use a phone in the same way that
others do.
No, that is not a dig at the Talks suppliers; I fully understand that they
need to run a business in a small market place.
It is just a dig at the sloping playing field that we blind people have to
use.
