I think I'm just expanding Brad's point, but if a phone only accepts
micro SD cards then it'll only support up to a 2G card, since this is
the maximum capacity of an micro SD card.
Capacities of 4G to 32G are obtained with micro SDHC cards. Note the HC
for high capacity. If a phone supports the micro SDHC type of cards then
it will most likely support 32G cards. The phone may only state cards
it's been tested with though, so if it came out before 32G cards were
available, it may not officially support 32G cards, but it's highly
unlikely that a phone's OS would have a file system limitation of say 8G
or 16G coded into it. As has been mentioned before, there may be some
performance problems if you start filling up a 32G card.
Micro SDXC cards will be the next ones you see, and I think there limit
is 2TB.

However, i have found that when i use a larger card than the phone specs
say, accessing the larger card is slower.
